The Assam Cabinet has approved the creation of a State Capital Region in Dibrugarh and the formation of the State Capital Region Development Authority, Dibrugarh (SCRDA-D) to guide the planned development of the state’s second capital.
The proposed State Capital Region will encompass areas within a 20-km radius of the Dibrugarh Capital Complex. SCRDA-D will be responsible for preparing regional and sectoral development plans, identifying growth corridors and managing future urban expansion associated with the emerging capital region. The MLA of Dibrugarh will serve as the ex-officio Chairman of the authority with Cabinet rank.
To accelerate infrastructure development, the government has earmarked ₹500 crore over five years, in addition to ongoing development projects in the region.
