The Assam Cabinet has approved ₹600 crore for a proton beam therapy facility at Guwahati Medical College, aimed at expanding access to advanced cancer treatment. The proposed facility is expected to be the first proton beam therapy facility in India’s public healthcare system.
Proton therapy enables more precise radiation delivery, potentially reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Guwahati Medical College would become the third hospital in India—across public and private sectors—to offer this technology, serving patients from Assam and beyond.
