The Government of India is developing Smart Border Infrastructure across all areas guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF) to strengthen border management and make international borders more secure and resilient.

The project, which is in its final stage, is based on a four-pronged strategy comprising close coordination with local administration, extensive use of technology, enhanced deployment of security personnel and improved border infrastructure. The initiative aims to improve surveillance, detection and response capabilities along India’s borders.

The move is particularly significant for the India–Pakistan and India–Bangladesh borders, where challenges such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, arms smuggling and counterfeit currency operations persist.
