Researchers from Kohima Science College and the Zoological Survey of India identified a new catfish species, Pseudecheneis likimroensis, from the Likimro River in Kiphire district of Nagaland.
Locally known as Nupedro, the fish inhabits fast-flowing rocky streams and possesses adaptations that enable it to cling to stones in strong currents. The discovery highlights the rich freshwater biodiversity of Nagaland and the ecological significance of the region’s riverine ecosystems.
