Thirty-nine Naga ancestral remains preserved at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford, are set to be repatriated following approval by the museum. The development follows a six-year effort by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and represents an important step towards restoring Naga heritage and dignity.
The repatriation addresses the historical removal of ancestral remains from their place of origin and seeks to return them to the Naga community. It also highlights growing global recognition of indigenous communities’ rights over their cultural and ancestral heritage.
