Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a statewide crackdown on middlemen allegedly involved in harassment, fraud and corruption across government offices. The move follows a recent police operation in which around 380 alleged middlemen were arrested for offences including impersonation, extortion, cheating and financial fraud.
The Assam Police Special Branch will introduce a dedicated public portal to receive information about such intermediaries. The action will extend to DTOs, circle offices, pension offices and BDO offices, aiming to improve transparency and curb corrupt practices in public service delivery.
