India remains a global leader in raw jute production, producing about 76 lakh bales of raw jute and 12.80 lakh MT of jute goods in FY 2025–26. West Bengal leads cultivation, followed by Bihar and Assam. The “Grow More Jute” campaign was launched in September 1949 to encourage farmers to shift from paddy cultivation.
