Nepal established, for the first time, a ministry explicitly recognising gender and sexual minorities as part of its administrative restructuring under Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

The ministry’s mandate includes protection, empowerment and development of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) communities along with support for Dalits, marginalised groups and backward regions. The move reflects Nepal’s continuing shift towards more inclusive social and governance policies.

APSC Relevance: International affairs, social justice and inclusive governance.
