- The historic Namrup-I Fertiliser Plant has been demolished after more than 50 years of service, paving the way for a modern replacement.
- Commissioned on 1 January 1969, it was India’s first natural gas-based fertiliser plant and played a key role in supporting agricultural productivity in Assam and the Northeast.
- The site will now house the new Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited, a joint venture that will establish a state-of-the-art ammonia-urea plant with advanced technology.
- The project is expected to strengthen fertiliser production, promote industrial growth, and enhance agricultural self-reliance in the region.
