The Government of West Bengal has announced the revival of the **Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR), with plans to recruit more than 1,000 Gorkha youths into the force.

The EFR is a historic armed police force known for the contribution of Gorkha personnel in maintaining security and supporting national defence. The announcement seeks to strengthen the force and expand employment opportunities in the Darjeeling Hills region.

The state government stated that recruitment to the EFR had remained largely stagnant in recent years, leading to a reduction in its strength.
