Oil India Limited (OIL) has made its second natural gas discovery in the Andaman offshore region, strengthening prospects of the Andaman Basin emerging as a major hydrocarbon-producing area in the future.
The discovery was made at the Vijayapuram-3 exploratory well, located about 15 km off the east coast of the Andaman Islands at a water depth of 355 metres. The finding highlights the hydrocarbon potential of India’s frontier offshore basins and supports efforts to enhance domestic oil and gas production, thereby contributing to the country’s energy security.
