Panchayats from the North-East performed strongly in the National Panchayat Awards 2025 organised by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Sepahijala district of Tripura was named the country’s Best District Panchayat and received the top award of ₹5 crore.
Kanchanbari in Tripura secured first place in the Healthy Panchayat category, while Baikunthapur was recognised as a Women-Friendly Panchayat. Mizoram’s Kawrthah North won in the Clean and Green Panchayat category, and Gyalshing Omchung of Sikkim secured third position in Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods.
