N Biren Singh has proposed consultations with experts in Assam to examine the feasibility of implementing a National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur. The move follows demands to identify illegal migrants, particularly from Myanmar.
The state plans to prepare a “White Paper” on Assam’s NRC experience, which was conducted under Supreme Court of India supervision. The proposal reflects concerns over demographic change and identity issues among local communities.
