The Manipur Cabinet has approved the notification of Kharungpat Bird Sanctuary under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Spanning about 227 hectares (around 6.7% of the wetland), it marks a key move in strengthening conservation and eco-tourism in the state.
The sanctuary is vital for protecting diverse waterbirds, including migratory species. Its designation will enhance habitat conservation, promote biodiversity and support sustainable tourism, reflecting Manipur’s commitment to ecological preservation.
