Manipur has recorded its first documented evidence of the Asiatic wild dog (dhole) after camera traps installed in Shirui Village of Ukhrul district captured images of the species, marking an important milestone for wildlife conservation in the state.
The dhole (Cuon alpinus) is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Its population has declined across Asia due to habitat loss and fragmentation, making the discovery significant for biodiversity monitoring and conservation planning.
