The United Nations’ declaration of November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage strengthens Assam’s ongoing campaign against the practice. Assam has reported an 81% decline in child marriages across 20 districts, accompanied by falling teenage pregnancies and rising female enrolment in higher education.

The State has also announced an “unapologetic campaign” throughout November, with emphasis on identifying perpetrators and ensuring legal action. The initiative reflects Assam’s broader focus on delaying marriage and improving opportunities for girls.
