E-RISE (Eri Rearing, Innovation, Spinning and Empowerment) is an initiative launched in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya to strengthen the eri silk sector by covering the entire value chain from rearing to yarn production. It targets around 1,200 farming households across 22 clusters with the aim of enhancing income and retaining value addition within the state.

The programme provides high-yielding host plants, financial assistance for climate-resilient rearing houses, and electric spinning machines. It also includes skill development and training to improve productivity and efficiency in sericulture.

The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, has recently obtained Oeko-Tex certification for eri silk from Germany. Oeko-Tex is a worldwide certification for textiles such as yarns, fabrics, buttons, linens, terry cloth, thread, and other accessory materials that tests for harmful substances in raw, semi-finished and finished textile materials and products. The Oeko-Tex certification ensures that the final product is safe for human use.
