Drugs Controller General of India issued a public notice warning consumers, aesthetic clinics, manufacturers and importers against the use of cosmetic products through injectable preparations.
The regulator clarified that under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, cosmetics are defined as products intended for cleansing, beautifying or altering appearance and are governed by the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. The authority emphasised that cosmetic products are not permitted to be used for treatment purposes by professionals or individuals.
