• Assam has recorded the highest cancer survival rate in India (62%), well above the national average of 40%, driven by its decentralised cancer care model and extensive early detection programme.
  • The state has planned a network of 17 cancer hospitals, with 12 already operational, including the State Cancer Institute, Guwahati, comprehensive cancer centres, and district-level diagnostic and day-care facilities.
  • Assam aims to screen 1.24 crore people; 47 lakh have already been screened, leading to the early detection of over 900 cancer patients.
