A new study identifies Dibang in Arunachal Pradesh, Shillong and Guwahati among areas of Northeast India most exposed to strong earthquake shaking. Imphal, Itanagar, Agartala and Kohima show moderate hazard, while Aizawl has comparatively lower hazard.

Researchers used Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA), a method that estimates the likelihood and intensity of future ground shaking. PSHA is also important for seismic building codes and earthquake-resilient infrastructure planning.
