Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died at 75, made his film debut with Gaman (1978) after studying at Mumbai’s Sir J.J. School of Art. Ankush (1986) and Parinda (1989) established him as a major performer; his portrayal in Parinda earned a National Film Award.
His performance in Krantiveer (1994) won the National Film Award for Best Actor, followed by another Best Supporting Actor award for Agni Sakshi (1996). He also directed Prahaar: The Final Attack (1991). His association with the Territorial Army and Maratha Light Infantry, including service during the 1999 Kargil War, reflected his longstanding connection with the armed forces.
