Canadian poet Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, recognised for work that blends poetry, prose, translation and classical scholarship. A scholar of ancient Greek literature, Carson is known for reinterpreting classical myths through innovative contemporary forms and voices.
Her acclaimed Autobiography of Red (1998), a novel in verse, reimagines the Greek myth of Geryon, the red-winged monster defeated by Herakles. Carson has also translated Electra and fragments of Sappho, combining classical scholarship with creative literary expression.
