Governance and Anti-Corruption

Arunachal Pradesh has appointed Justice (Retd) Prasanta Kumar Deka, former Judge of the Gauhati High Court, as the new Chairperson of the state Lokayukta, the anti-corruption ombudsman responsible for investigating grievances and allegations of misconduct against government officials and public servants.

The institution of Lokayukta, conceptualized under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, functions as a mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability in governance. It enables citizens to lodge complaints regarding corruption or maladministration and empowers the authority to conduct inquiries and recommend corrective measures.

The Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta plays a crucial role in reinforcing ethical administration, deterring misuse of public office, and safeguarding public interest by providing an independent platform for redressal of complaints against state government officials.
