History / Global Resistance Movements
France has issued a commemorative postage stamp celebrating Noor Inayat Khan, making her the only Indian-origin woman to receive this honour for her role in the French Resistance during World War II. A descendant of Tipu Sultan, Noor served as an undercover British wireless operator in Nazi-occupied France and became one of the most heroic figures of the Allied intelligence effort.
La Poste included her in its “Figures of the Resistance” stamp series marking 80 years since the end of World War II. She is one of a dozen Resistance heroes recognised this year, reflecting the enduring legacy of her courage, sacrifice, and contribution to defeating Nazi Germany.
