The Central Government has appointed Naresh Pal Gangwar, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as Secretary, Department of Higher Education. He succeeds Vineet Joshi, who has been transferred as Secretary to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
The appointment comes amid scrutiny of the Education Ministry over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak controversy. The Department of Higher Education is responsible for formulating policies and promoting quality, access, and reforms in higher education across India.
