The Union Cabinet has approved a draft Bill to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, proposing stricter penalties to curb paper leaks and examination malpractices. The amendments prescribe a minimum five-year imprisonment for offenders and stronger provisions against organised examination fraud.
For organised paper leaks, the proposed law provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a maximum fine of ₹10 crore, replacing the relatively lighter penalties under the existing Act. The move aims to enhance the integrity and credibility of public recruitment examinations.
