Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned as the Union Education Minister following weeks of nationwide student protests over examination irregularities and the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. He served as Education Minister from July 2021 to July 2026 and stated that his decision was guided by accountability and the interests of students.
During his tenure, he led the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including foundational curriculum reforms, higher education restructuring, and the expansion of digital learning initiatives. Earlier, as Petroleum Minister, he also played a key role in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which expanded access to subsidised LPG connections for low-income households.
