The Assam Police Special Operations Group (SOG) recently foiled a suspected wildlife trafficking attempt at Medhikuchi in Sonapur, recovering six musk deer pods. The seizure highlights the threat posed by illegal trade in wildlife-derived products and the importance of enforcement against trafficking networks.
A musk pod is a walnut-sized scent gland found only in male musk deer, located between the navel and genital region. It produces a strongly scented secretion that, when dried, forms musk grains—historically valued as Kasturi (Moschus) and widely used in traditional medicine and luxury perfumery.
