4 Rivers 6 Ranges, directed by Shenpenn Khymsar, is a historical action-drama based on the true story of Chushi Gangdruk, a Tibetan guerrilla resistance movement formed in 1958. Its name translates to “Four Rivers, Six Ranges,” reflecting Tibet’s geographical landscape.
The film portrays the group’s dangerous 1959 mission to escort the 14th Dalai Lama, then 14 years old, across the high-altitude Himalayas to safety in India. It depicts the participation of ordinary Tibetans, including farmers, traders and monks, in defending their homeland and culture.
