The Assam Cabinet has approved implementation of the Assam Sustainable Wetland and Integrated Fisheries Transformation (SWIFT) Project with an outlay of ₹796.88 crore. The initiative seeks to strengthen the conservation and productive use of the state’s wetlands and fisheries resources.
The project will cover wetland restoration, fisheries input and stocking support, infrastructure and equipment development, along with livelihood promotion and entrepreneurship. It aims to combine ecological restoration with improved fisheries-based livelihoods and economic opportunities for local communities.
