Assam showed a massive improvement in energy efficiency implementation putting itself as the top performing state in its group, according to the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) report for 2021-22. It was released by Union power and new and renewable energy minister RK Singh on Monday.
This is a step towards achieving the long-term goal of transitioning to a net-zero economy by 2030.
The index developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in association with Alliance for an Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE), assesses the annual progress of states and UTs in energy efficiency implementation using 51 indicators aligned with national priorities. These range across seven sectors – buildings, industry, municipality, transport, agriculture, distribution companies (DISCOMs), and cross-sectoral initiatives. The maximum score for the SEEI 2021-22 is 100.
