The name Murasu means “war drum” or “traditional drum” in Tamil. It was proposed by India under the regional tropical cyclone naming system coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Traditionally, the Murasu served as an important means of public communication in southern India. It was used to announce important events, spread information and alert communities about emergencies, including impending natural disasters.
