Assam government on July 5 announced to increase in reservation of seats for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in professional courses under state agriculture university from 15 per cent to 27 per cent.
the reservation of seats for OBC/MOBC communities has been done community-wise, namely – Tea Tribe, Moran, Matak, Tai-Ahom, Chutia, and Koch Rajbongshi in view of the increase in reservation for OBCs/MOBCs in professional courses under AAU from academic session 2023-24.
Reservation of seats for allocation to 6 communities, namely – Tai Ahom, Chutia, Moran, Matak, Koch Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribes, within 27 per cent OBC/MOB reservation, in BSc/GNM/ANM training courses in 24 Govt GNM training schools, 18 AM training schools, and 3 BSc Nursing schools

The cabinet also decided to give scooters to girls students with 60 per cent marks and boys with 75 per cent marks who performed exceptionally well in Higher Secondary (HS)
the cutoff marks for eligibility will be set at 75 percent and above for both girls and boys starting from the next academic year.
This initiative aims to incentivize academic achievement and facilitate better access to education for deserving students.

The cabinet also approved 167 Crore for distribution of 3.78 lakh bicycles amongst the students of Class 9 studying in Govt and Provincialised schools.
This move is expected to promote a culture of physical activity and ensure smoother transportation for students, especially those residing in rural areas.

The Assam cabinet on Wednesday decided to place a request to the Indian Olympic Association to allow the state to host the national games in either 2025 or 2027.

The council of ministers also green-lighted the draft of the amended Assam Food Security Rules, 2022 under the National Food Security Act, 2013.
The proposed amendment provides for the enhancement of income criteria from the existing Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh to enable more deserving families to apply for new ration cards under the NFSA.

The cabinet also gave its nod to the Assam Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Facilitation of Establishment and Operation Rules, 2023, which will exempt MSMEs from certain approvals and inspections, required for establishment and operation in the state for three years.
An MSME in the state can now start operation on receipt of an acknowledgement certificate from the state nodal agency by submitting the declaration of intent.

The Supreme Court collegium, headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on July 5 has recommended the appointment of two distinguished judges as justices of the apex court. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, currently serving as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, have been proposed for elevation to the Supreme Court bench.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, known for his specialization in the law of taxation, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Having previously served as a judge of the Bombay High Court, he has presided over a wide spectrum of cases, particularly those related to taxation matters. The collegium acknowledged Justice Bhuyan’s outstanding domain knowledge and his reputation for integrity and competence.

A total of five tribal militant groups have officially laid down their arms in a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati on July 6.
