The Union Cabinet has approved major investments worth ₹40,150 crore for hydropower development in Arunachal Pradesh, strengthening renewable energy capacity and regional infrastructure.

The Kamala Hydro Electric Project (1,720 MW), to be developed across Kamle, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts, will be executed through a joint venture involving NHPC Limited and the State government. The project is expected to generate around 6,870 million units of electricity annually.

It will aid in peak power management, grid stability and flood moderation in the Brahmaputra basin, highlighting its strategic and environmental importance.
