The Northeast Frontier Railway has created a new milestone by renewing 1,033 metres of track in a single day using advanced mechanised systems. The work was executed with the help of the Plasser’s Quick Relaying System (PQRS), allowing rapid replacement of worn-out rail panels with new ones.

PQRS is a semi-mechanised technique in which prefabricated rail panels are laid after the old track is lifted, enabling the job to be completed during short traffic blocks instead of long shutdowns. Developed by Plasser & Theurer of Austria, the system is widely used for fast, safe track modernisation.

The technology helps railways accelerate renewal programmes, cut disruption, and enhance safety and reliability on busy routes.
