Mizoram has begun supplying Muga silkworm seed to Assam and Meghalaya, with around 27,000 silkworms dispatched to Narayanpur in Assam and Rompara in Meghalaya for further multiplication. Mizoram’s cooler climatic conditions provide favourable conditions for muga silkworm rearing during summer, when the hot plains pose greater challenges.

The Central Silk Board has muga silkworm seed production units at 14 locations across the Northeast. Mizoram received its first such facility this year, with the P3 Muga Unit at Thenzawl, Serchhip district, becoming operational.
