The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is marking its centenary with celebrations at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 1 October. A commemorative book, 100 Landmark Judgements – Shaping the Policies of UPSC and Public Service Commissions in India, will also be released to highlight important judicial decisions shaping public-service recruitment.

The UPSC was established on 1 October 1926, following the recommendations of the Lee Commission (1924). Sir Ross Barker served as its first Chairman, marking the beginning of India’s institutionalised system of public-service recruitment.
