The first clean room at the Tata semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam, is ready, and pilot chip production has begun, marking a major milestone in the state’s semiconductor project.
A clean room is a specially engineered environment that maintains extremely low concentrations of airborne particles, including dust, microbes and chemical vapours. Even microscopic dust particles can damage silicon wafers and destroy microchip circuits. Clean rooms use HEPA or ULPA filters to remove up to 99.99% of microscopic particles and maintain positive air pressure, preventing contaminated outside air from entering.
