The All India Services Pensioners Cell, Assam Unit, intensified its demand for upgrading Guwahati from a Tier-II to Tier-I city under the Central Government Health Scheme.

The organisation argued that Guwahati functions as the principal healthcare hub for the entire Northeast, catering to patients from Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for specialised medical treatment. It stated that geographical remoteness and limited advanced healthcare facilities in neighbouring states justify special consideration for Guwahati within the CGHS framework.
