Mizoram launched the ₹189.79-crore Mizoram Ginger Mission to strengthen ginger cultivation, processing and international market access for farmers. The Centre-backed initiative aims to improve value addition and enhance income opportunities in the state’s agricultural sector.
Mizo ginger is known for its high oleoresin content of 6–8 per cent, much higher than the global average. Two indigenous varieties, Thingpui and Thinglaidum, received Geographical Indication (GI) tags in 2021, highlighting their unique quality and strengthening Mizoram’s identity in spice production.
