V. D. Satheesan was announced by the AICC as the Chief Minister-designate of Kerala following the 2026 Assembly elections. A senior Congress leader, lawyer and noted orator, he is credited with revitalising the United Democratic Front (UDF) after its 2021 defeat.
Representing the Paravur constituency in Ernakulam since 2001, Satheesan won six consecutive Assembly elections after losing his debut contest in 1996. As Leader of the Opposition, he built “Team UDF,” reducing internal divisions and strengthening the coalition’s electoral performance.
