In the biggest recruitment process on a single day in the history of the state, Union home minister Amit Shah on behalf of the Assam government will hand over 50,000 job appointment letters at one go to mark the second anniversary of the state’s second BJP-led government on May 10.

BJP formed its second successive government in 2021 with a promise to provide one lakh jobs to youth in the government sector. Since then, the government has appointed 41,920 candidates in the sector.

Besides government jobs, the state government is also pushing for self-employment. The state budget for the 2023-24 financial year passed by the assembly a few weeks ago has earmarked Rs 5,000 crore for three years for the scheme to provide self-employment opportunities to two lakh youths of the state and help them stand on their own and transform them into job creators.
