Rajmala, the royal chronicle of the Manikya dynasty of Tripura, is among the oldest continuous royal chronicles in India. Compiled in the 15th century during the reign of Maharaja Dharma Manikya, it records the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Tripura kingdom, portraying the Manikya rulers as custodians of dharma.
According to Rajmala, the Manikya dynasty traced its origin to Druhya, son of Yayati, of the Lunar Dynasty (Chandravansha). The chronicle reflects the dynasty’s deep devotion to Lord Jagannath, emphasising the belief that the true sovereign of the kingdom was the deity in the temple rather than the king on the throne.
