Dima Hasao has taken a notable step towards environmental responsibility. It is setting an example by installing plastic banks in office premises to promote cleanliness and reduce plastic waste. Each office in Dima Hasao now has at least one plastic bank as part of ongoing efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission. This initiative empowers the community, including office workers, to actively participate in maintaining clean surroundings.
These plastic banks are creatively decorated and made from materials like cardboard, wire netting, and containers. They collect plastic waste such as bottles, pens, plates, and file covers, which are then deposited at the Haflong Municipal Board or respective municipal boards for offices under the administrative control of NCHAC in other towns
According to the issued order, employees are to deposit their home plastic waste items, such as toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, pens, bottles, cans, and containers, into their office plastic banks. Each office will appoint a Plastic Bank Manager (PBM) to ensure that once a sizeable amount of plastic is collected, it is packed in a garbage disposal bag and sent to the municipal boards. The weight of the deposited plastic will be recorded, and a certificate will be issued by the executive officer of the municipal boards. Awards will be given to offices that consistently deposit plastic waste, with the weight proportionate to the number of employees.
