The Meghalaya government has moved to preserve the historic David Scott Trail by initiating its declaration as a protected heritage site. Located in Sohbar Sirdarship of East Khasi Hills, the trail stands as one of the earliest colonial-era communication routes in the Khasi Hills.
Constructed in the 1820s under British administrator David Scott, the pathway once connected the plains of Assam with the Khasi Hills, facilitating trade, administration, and military movement. Stretching through forests and Khasi villages, it retains stone bridges, rest houses, and retaining walls that reflect 19th-century engineering. The move not only safeguards colonial heritage but also strengthens cultural tourism by linking history with indigenous traditions.
