July 1 will mark the implementation of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act after nearly two decades.
The new framework guarantees 125 days of statutory wage employment for rural households. Existing e-KYC verified MGNREGA job cards will remain valid until new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued. Workers without job cards can continue registering at gram panchayat offices, and employment cannot be denied due to pending e-KYC verification requirements.
APSC Relevance: Rural development, employment generation and welfare schemes.
