The Assam Cabinet has approved the de-reservation of 987 bighas of Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) land under Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle in Sonitpur district for settlement in favour of 2,016 landless labourers and eligible Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries.
An equivalent area of government land will be reserved afresh as VGR to maintain grazing facilities. The Cabinet has also directed the identification and protection of vacant government land.
