Economy & Women’s Empowerment

The Shilp Didi Programme is a government initiative designed to economically empower women artisans by providing them with training, digital literacy, and access to wider markets through both e-commerce platforms and physical exhibitions.

Launched in 2024 with a 100-day pilot phase starting in June, the programme is implemented by the Ministry of Textiles through the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).

Its core aim is to help women artisans become financially independent, enhance their design, business, and entrepreneurship skills, and use modern marketing tools to expand their livelihood opportunities.

APSC relevance: Important for women-led crafts sector development, handicrafts policy, and artisan empowerment schemes.
