(Governance – Digital Identity & Internal Security)
Manipur has introduced one of the most rigorous Aadhaar issuance processes in India, aiming to strengthen identity verification and prevent misuse, particularly by illegal foreigners.
Key Highlights:
Every adult Aadhaar application undergoes mandatory approval at the State Headquarters, specifically in the office of the Special Secretary (Home).
As per UIDAI officials, Manipur’s system may be the most stringent Aadhaar verification process in the country.
The move aligns with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and UIDAI guidelines to ensure national security and data integrity.
Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU):
- MBU-1: For children aged 5–7 years
- MBU-2: For individuals above 15 years
These updates are free of cost and essential to maintain Aadhaar validity, ensure data accuracy, and prevent identity fraud.
Significance:
Enhances digital identity security and authentication reliability.
Prevents misuse of Aadhaar for illegal access to welfare schemes, financial fraud, or undocumented migration.
Sets a precedent for robust Aadhaar governance nationwide.
