The Northeast region of India currently has 89 registered Geographical Indication (GI) products, reflecting the area’s rich cultural and agricultural diversity. Handicraft items constitute the largest category with 48 products, highlighting the strong tradition of indigenous craftsmanship in the region.

Agricultural products account for 28 GI tags, while eight belong to manufactured goods and five to food products. GI recognition helps protect unique regional products, enhance market value and support local livelihoods by linking traditional knowledge with intellectual property protection.
